Here, there and everywhere, MrBeast promises cookies. Like, subscribe, vote in a poll, etcetera. I've done all that and not a single cookie. Are the supposed to come automatically or do we have to pick them up? Either way is fine with me. Just let me know. |
For now, the plan is to keep using Beast Philanthropy to give students a little more cultural awareness. Instead of choosing for the students they were allowed to vote on which video they wanted to watch.
Since the students are familiar with heavy rain and flooding here in Japan, 'We Built Houses for Homeless Families' was the next choice. |
The majority of students found the video interesting, impressive, or moving. While some were wondering, 'Only 10 houses, what good is that?' In any case, it was interesting to see the scope of the reactions. You can see the reading practice print here. |
Lesson 2 of the 2nd years students' textbook, My Way II features the story of Boyan Slat, in 'A New Way to Clean Up the Ocean' so 'I Cleaned the World’s Dirtiest Beach #TeamSeas' from the Beast Philanthropy channel is a perfect match. |
While Slat's story is interesting, it's difficult to imagine the whole situation simply from the text. In addition, the students must study the grammar presented in the text. |
So, it is refreshing for students to watch a video related to what they're studying in the textbook. You can see the reading practice print here. |

Sometime in September I was scrolling through Twitter and saw this... |
What about students here, in Japan? I asked about a hundred or so and not one knew what a MrBeast was. |
